Who We Are

Feed Africa Initiative (FAI) is a registered National Non-Governmental Organization committed to improving the health of people in Africa by providing sustainable Agricultural, health, water and education solutions, generating evidence to influence policy and practice, and fostering partnership and collaboration. Feed Africa Initiative Africa is registered with the Office of the Vice President under the Ministry of State for National Heritage and Culture with registration Number OP218/051/20-216/11939 as regards section 10 of the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Act. Feed Africa Initiative strategic areas of focus is in addressing, Hunger and food insecurity, Ignorance and inadequate education and technology, Disease and health issues, Water shortage and numerous life threatening disaster.

Institutional Capacity

FAI has a fully-fledged Secretariat made of a professional team that includes Chief Executive officer, Programme Manager, Monitoring/Evaluation Advisor, Finance and administration Director and Project Assistant. The staffing structure is based on immediate programs, targets, and future needs. The Programme Manager oversee and provide overall project coordination. The PM direct implementation, account for project performance, coordinate all project resources. The Finance Director maintains accounting systems and procedures to track and verify all project expenditures; identifies technical assistance and training needs related to accounting and compliance. The M&E Advisor will ensure appropriateness, quality and timeliness of data collection and analysis for management and reporting; facilitate regular data reviews with partners/donor. The project officer will coordinate training and refresher sessions, collaborates closely with partners and individual donors supporting the project. This team meets on a consistent basis and is responsible for the day to day implementation, provide technical support on program issues, and develop annual plans and budgets, progress reports which are developed and aligned to its Strategic Plan. The personal commitment of FAI is expected to enhance the zeal with which activities IS be carried out. FAI is currently working with core staff, with the projection that this will increase based on the level and timing of funding. The aim is to ensure that all programs are covered and that the staff has a mix of skills and experience, equal to the task, and will deliver the aims and targets stated.

Board of directors


FAI is governed by a Board of Directors (BOD) which is responsible for all policy matters, and is composed of a Chairman, five gazetted/appointed members.FAI Chief Executive Officer, who is the Principal Accounting Officer of the Institute, is a board member. The Secretary also serves as secretary to the Board of Management.In order to ensure efficient delivery of Board mandates, there is also a Treasure who oversees the financial bit of the NGO and other members.

Hon. Nimrod Mbai Chairman

Hon.Nimrod Mbai is the Chairman of Feed Africa Initiative (FAI) a position held from the inception of the Organization in 2020. FAI is a brain Child of Hon. Nimrod Mbai, a visionary and astute businessman and community resouce Mobilizer,Hon. Mbai brings wealth of expertise both from the Government and the Private sector to give FAI Visionary leadership. He is also the chairman of Nzouni Ranch and Wildlife Conservancy and Nzouni Ranch Intitute of Agriculture and Technology. Strategic Advisor appointed to the Boards of several NGOs and FBOs,CSOs supporting the community in areas Agriculture, Health ,Education, Water and sanitation and Disaster management Previously, Hon Mbai served the Kenya government in different Senior Managerial positions. He Holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration (Kenyatta unversity), BA in Political Science (UON) and Diploma in public Relations. Hon.Mbai is the sitting Member of National Assembley for Kitui East Consituency in Kitui County.

Mrs. Grace Mwende Secretary

Mrs.Grace Mwende is a Development Professional with over 13 years of experience in program and project management, corporate governance and community development. Her area of expertise include participatory methodologies, research, monitoring and evaluation, enterprise development, women and youth empowerment and business development. She has supported Non-governmental organizations, Community based organizations on public employment programs that were rolled out both by National and devolved governments. She holds a Masters in Project Monitoring and Evaluation(UON), BA in Education(UON) and Diploma in Guidance and Counselling(UON) Currently Mrs. Mwende is the Secretary of Feed Africa Initiative and equally independent consultant supporting small and medium and micro- sized enterprises and cooperatives in project development and management, capacity building and resource mobilization

Mr. Kelvin Mbithuka Treasurer

Mr. Kevin Mbithuka is an experienced young social entrepreneur in creating and implementing innovating programs in education, leadership development and social Justice. With a background that blends with community service, carrier development and organizational development rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion, he delivers Young Level leadership and guidance to multi-displianry teams delivering social impact in Kenya. He holds a Diploma in Mass Communications (Daystar) Mr.Kenlvin is currently the Treasurer of Feed Africa Initiative and uses his entrepreneurial skills to attract resources to the organization.

Jimmy Mutua Board Member

Jimmy is an HIV specialist and programmer who has been living and working in the area of Health for the past 14 years. He has extensive clinical, research, policy, and programmatic experience, serving as the Advisor to the government Department incharge of HIV prevention control care and support (ACUs). He has a lot of interest in the area of clinical research and expertise focuses on HIV and TB drug resistance. He brings this reach experience to fastrack Health programing for the implementation of innovative community health solutions for Feed Africa Initiative.He is astute resource mobilizer and a valuable asset and member of the Board for Feed Afirca Initiative.

Brian Alex Board Member

Brian Alex is board member of Feed Africa Initiative who holds a Barchelor's in Finance and Banking Degree from Moi University and MBA(Strategic Management) from UON.He brings rich experience in Social Impact + Innovation.He is an expert in hub to incubate emergent ideas of the youth in the social impact space, housed at FAI. Alex manages the day-to-day operations of the FAI Center, helping to mobilize talent for social impact at scale, connecting youth of all ages with leading-edge thought leaders. He has spoken and conducted research on the connection between social impact and talent development and how to use innovation to enhance food security in the community.As aboard member incharge of resource mobilization for innovative farming and youth Agenda in food security

Rebecca Kandia Board Member

Ms.Rebecca is a renowned activist who has impacted the response to HIV/AIDS, in Kenya, regionally and internationally. While serving at FAI in a board member,Rebecca coordinated the first-ever Treatment Literacy Programme in Kenya, which empowered over 50,000 people living with HIV/AIDS with the science of HIV, the benefits of treatment and associated side effects. This became the biggest HIV movement in Kenya , which advocated for access to TB/HIV services, monitoring of drug stockouts and holding duty-bearers accountable for service delivery. The programme advocated for an inclusive and enabling policy and legal environment.She is responsible for resource mobilization for food security for the most vulnerable community members.She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and postgraduate Diploma in Education

Benard Motonu is a bachelors degree holder in Finance who oversees all areas in finance and administration including; payroll, accounts payable and receivables, job costing, general ledger, inventory, banking and reconciliations. He provides strategic analyses for senior management to determine project feasibility and works alongside the executive team of Feed Africa Initiative. Benard is a powerful force in the workplace and uses his positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed

Communications Director

A communications graduate from the Multi Media University.He has an experience as a radio presenter and is currently a renown TV program host He brings this expertise at FAI ti diseminate information like preparing training materials for our projects.

Mutsembih Ian

IT/Technical

A Barchelor in Computer Science student and a Diploma in Business & Information Technology holder from St Paul's University.Passionate with Business processes and technology. Mutsembih brings his skills to enhance the IT functionality of Feed Africa Initiative.
