Kitui region in the eastern part of Kenya is an arid area that has few agricultural activities taking place. Residents of the area are living in extreme poverty due to the prevailing conditions. Feed Africa Initiative is tasked to train locals of Kitui county on beekeeping and honey production which would enable them to gain higher incomes that would raise their living standards. Kitui being in an arid region has a high potential for the production of honey.
Feed Africa Initiative will be providing four beehives to every household together with beekeeping supplies for honey propagation. The initiative would also enable the households to receive technical assistance and training in honey marketing. The beekeeping project has a long-term vision of improving the income and nutrition of the area residents. The project will work in the form of a pyramid structure where the beneficiary of the projects will pass on the knowledge acquired to other locals.
